As wedding planners local to Raleigh, we were excited to take a quick trip over to Durham to design something exception for a gem venue in downtown Durham. It was such a pleasure to design an intimate wedding on the porch of the Hill House in Durham. Our inspiration for this design was a nod to the history of the Hill House and its European Villa feel. Built in 1911, this Spanish Colonial Revival mansion boasts historic details with modern amenities. The ornate architecture of the house paired with the location in the heart of Downtown Durham inspired this “destination wedding meets local” wedding at Hill House Durham.

Steeped in history and European influence, the Hill House was the perfect backdrop to showcase Spring in North Carolina. With this in mind, we styled this shoot with all the elements of a garden soiree. The sun-drenched patio ceremony called for elements of fresh blooms local to North Carolina, and notes of blue and yellow as a nod to the Mediterranean Sea. Finally, peach tones tied into the color scheme to echo the terra cotta tile and stucco architecture.

The natural wooden chairs provided by Curated Events matched our ceremony perfectly.

While our inspiration was European, our design called for a heavy emphasis on locally sourced and sustainable materials provided by Comfy Florals. Every bloom featured in our florals were grown in North Carolina.

The stationery featured handprinted watercolors from Raleigh artist, Bree Ryan. The painted, handmade paper vow books evoked the historic ambiance of the Hill House.

The Hill House also has a beautiful bridal suite with plenty of room to get ready for the day with Peach Cowgirl Beauty! There was even opportunity to get a fun and trendy bathtub picture for the bride!

Obviously, the details of the day could not be complete without some sparkle from Diamonds Direct!

And of course, you can’t have a wedding without a reception! Following a charming cocktail hour on the patio, the reception was hosted in the music room of the Hill House. The table scapes tied together elements of Italy and a color scheme consistent with the florals.

Finally, the shoot featured a bridal tea party as a nod to the old world charm of the home. The tea party rentals were courtesy of Tea Time 2 You in Wake Forest. We also enjoyed desserts from S. Richardson Cakes and a macaron tower from Pastries by J.
